A few years ago we had a dream of having our own land. So with a simple outline specification we searched for suitable land, we were looking for a flat bit, a wooded bit, and a wet bit! We also wanted very good access - so that could not block any change of use we made. Water and power nearby and preferably a pub within walking distance 🙂 We soon realised that one thing we did not want was an overage charge hanging over our heads - we wanted the freedom to dream big - and not pay for the privilege of improvements as we moved forward with our plans.

So after a lot of looking, we found these fields, part of a farm that was being broken up and sold off in small pieces. Two of the old brick barns from the farmyard and the farmhouse were sold off and the metal barns were taken down to be re-erected in Wales. Some small paddocks were created from the remaining land and we managed to buy the remaining three parcels of agricultural land.

We envisaged a simple place, caravans and tents on an occasional basis, a light touch on the land - care, respect, stewardship, and simple enjoyment in nature. We wanted to sit around a fire with groups of friends and grow food. We also thought we might get residence by creating a business and turning into farmers - but the truth is we are both past retirement age and it is time to slow down not to take on this commitment.

Then life took an interesting twist - as while the contracts for the land were being agreed we became more and more aware of the implication of Brexit. We were concerned, about both the social repercussions of this major decision and the likelihood of a major economic collapse. Then there was the virus - which nearly stopped us in our tracks. We decided to make a huge leap of faith and stay European - so when an opportunity arose - we moved to the Netherlands

We have returned to the UK each summer and really enjoyed this magical land. 

But now after over three years, we have decided we won't be returning to live in the UK, so it is time to find the next owners for this land, so we can all move forward with our latest dreams.
